Adopt-a-Spot gives civic-minded individuals, organizations, and businesses the opportunity to participate in creating 'a cleaner, more beautiful Denton.' Your group may choose to adopt a park, a drainage way or a city street. The goal is to designate that area as yours to keep clean. Once a group has conducted two of six required annual clean-ups, an Adopt-a-Spot sign with your organization's name or Acronym on it will be installed at your adopted location.
**Adopt-a-Spot is designed for groups that are in Denton on a year-round basis, and does not lend itself well to university groups.
By signing an Adoption Agreement, the volunteer(s), both jointly and severally, acknowledge the potentially hazardous nature of the work to be performed, and both jointly and severally, agree to the Program Terms listed below.
Volunteer Responsibilities:
- Conduct a general cleanup of the adopted area six (6) times per year. Approximately one cleanup every two months is required.
- Place the collected litter in tied bags at your Adopt-a-Spot sign(s) for collection.
- Utilize safety vests as provided, and exert all due care and caution during cleanups.
- Give each member of the group the Safety Information Sheet provided.
- Return safety vests and unused bags within one (1) working day after the cleanup.
- Provide adult supervision for volunteers 15 years of age and younger.
- Submit your cleanup information to the KDB office on the provided response card within one (1) week of the cleanup.
- Monitor compliance with Program Terms.
- Provide safety vests (as available), trash bags, and collection services.
- Place Adopt-a-Spot signs, with the adopter's name or acronym, at the beginning and the end of the adopted area within 30 days of the adopter's first reported cleanup.
- Provide publicity for adopters through various media coverage.
- Hold a volunteer recognition event for program participants
